Awesome vibe! We had such a great time soaking up the sun on the balcony—perfect spot to relax with a pineapple cocktail in hand. The atmosphere was lively yet laid-back, making it an ideal place to unwind. Perfect location for Friday cocktails here after work.

The food? Absolutely to die for. The Mexican street corn stole the show for me - beautifully presented and incredible unique flavours. Every dish that came out the kitchen was a visual treat.

I highly recommend for anyone looking for great food and fantastic cocktails!

Wow wow. Mexicola Locale in Woodstock.

What an amazing experience especially the mexican foods.

It was delicious, service was great.

Its definitely a mexican place to check out. Food portions are small but delicious.

We had a variety of foods catered to our needs and what an amazing feast we had.

The entire venue is clean and toilets as well.
The bar was not stocked as we have hoped but we still enjoyed the evening with the drinks on hand. Free Shooters was the cherry on the cake!!!

A birthday never to be forgotten.
We thank you..

Beautiful Mexican food. Fresh beautifully cooked fish tacos, chargrilled beef, spicy crispy nachos and THE best Burnt orange, roast almond drizzle dessert known to mankind! Wow! Best ever and fabulous service. Very intimate place and great for group of friends too! A must go to!

What a fantastic experience! The young owner went out of his way on a Friday afternoon to get me a non alcoholic Devils Peak lager when my wife mentioned I drank it and they didn't have stock.

The food was soooo much better than any Mexican restaurant I've ever been to in South Africa ...and I've been to quite a few.

The service was excellent and I am sure this place will be packed on summer nights.

There is safe undercover parking off the main road.

Great job guys and all the best for your 2nd Mexicola!!!

What a 10/10 experience! From the host to the food to the drinks - everything was amazing! We went as soon as it opened on our first day in Cape Town, and the setting was absolutely stunning. We tried 4 dishes based on our host’s recommendations (definitely trust him!) - every bite was mouth-watering.

Amazing Experience at Mexicola Locale!

I had the pleasure of dining at Mexicola Locale in Hout Bay, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with a warm and friendly vibe. The atmosphere is lively, colorful, and feels authentically Mexican, making it the perfect spot for a fun night out.

The service was top-notch. Our waiter, Robinson, was incredibly attentive and made excellent recommendations from the menu. He knew exactly how to enhance our dining experience with his friendly personality and thorough knowledge of the dishes.

Speaking of the food—wow! Each dish was bursting with flavor, and the freshness of the ingredients was evident. The tacos were perfectly seasoned, the guacamole was creamy and delicious, and the churros at the end were the perfect sweet finish. Tyler, the owner, clearly takes pride in every detail of the restaurant, and it shows.

Whether you’re a fan of Mexican cuisine or just looking for a great place to eat in Hout Bay, Mexicola Locale is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be returning soon!

On Thursday afternoon, my business partner and I agreed that enough is enough, June and July’s winter was cute, but August was pushing it. It’s absolutely freezing for no reason at all. After a shared rant, we decided to distract ourselves with belly-warming spicy food. Not just any spicy food, Mexican. Tacos, nachos, churros… and of course, margaritas. So it was settled, Mexico (in Cape Town), watch out, here we come!
We arrived at Mexicola Locale and were transported to a much warmer, vibrant atmosphere. Lively, feel-good Mexican music filled the space, with bold colours of deep orange, reds, and blues. Mostly open-air, spacious yet intimate, casually cool but full of personality. Our host, Kamva, greeted us warmly, turned on the heater above us, and instantly made us feel like we were at a beach club in Mexico.
He explained the menu, authentic Mexican food, fresh-juice margaritas, and double shots of tequila. He suggested the pineapple margarita, one of my favourites. Made to order, so a bit of a wait, but quality wins every time. While we waited, we ordered jalapeño & olive dip, guacamole, and salsa with house-made tortilla chips. The chips were golden, crisp, lightly salted, perfect for scooping. The jalapeño & olive dip was pale green but bold, tangy, and just spicy enough to wake up the palate. The guac was ultra-smooth, fresh, creamy, garlicky. The salsa was rustic and chunky with charred tomatoes, sweet, smoky, and a touch spicy.
Then my margarita arrived, huge, golden, tropical glow, frothy citrus foam, garnished with pineapple like a sunhat. Bright, zingy, smooth, and dangerously easy to drink. Beach holiday in a glass, without the sand.
We ordered more food: cordero quesobirria (lamb) and Mexican street corn. The corn arrived with a swirl of smoke rising from charcoal atop golden breadcrumbs. Coating the buttery, charred corn in them added toasty, nutty depth, sweet, smoky, slightly spicy, and fun to eat.
Then, the quesobirria. Golden tortilla, crispy edges, stuffed with cheesy lamb, served with shimmering lamb jus. I dunked it, let it soak, and bit in. Crunchy tortilla, melty mozzarella, juicy lamb… and that jus. THE JUS. Bottle it, sell it, marry it. Rich, umami, silky, smoky, a twelve out of ten.
Back into holiday mode, we ordered a paloma,peachy-pink sunshine in a glass with grapefruit. Zesty, fresh, and a generous pour of tequila. Just as it kicked in, our tacos arrived.
The Papa Dulce (vegetarian) looked like a rainbow on a tortilla. Sweet caramelised sweet potato, hearty black beans, feta, pickled onions, and the star, the smoky, rich romesco sauce, all in a warm, soft tortilla. I’ve been dreaming of it since. The El Pastor had glossy strands of braised pork, creamy avocado, purple cabbage, lime, ripe pineapple, and subtle chilli heat. Fall-apart tender pork with deep savoury-sweet flavour. I love both tacos equally, but differently.
Dessert was churro waffles, golden brown sugar-coated, with vanilla ice cream between them and dark chocolate sauce draped over like it was auditioning for a telenovela. Crunchy outside, fluffy inside, ice cream melting into every crevice, rich bittersweet chocolate, and a hint of horchata spice. Tall, dark, handsome, and delicious.
An absolutely amazing afternoon, from the atmosphere to the flavours and fun-filled drinks, we felt well looked after. I can highly recommend Mexicola Locale, it’s the kind of place you’ll return to time and time again.
Thank you, Mexicola Locale! Till next time!

I was in Hout Bay the other day and came across this Mexican restaurant / tequila bar which I have not been to before. I was so pleasantly surprised how awesome this place is! It was some of the best Mexican food I have ever had, and the frozen margaritas were unreal, make sure you order the jug, (or 2!). I have heard that it has new owners / management for the last few weeks, they are definitely doing a great job! The food has such good flavors and also so well presented, I forgot to take pics of the rest of the food I was too keen to just try it! Very highly recommend this place and look forward to visiting again soon! 🌮🌯🇲🇽
